St. Margaret’s Episcopal School student Samantha Geller (grade 7) has a passion for animals that inspired her to start the Animal Awareness Club at St. Margaret’s last year. Her passion and motivation to do right by animals, along with the support and guidance of the Pet Project Foundation, a local nonprofit animal shelter, allowed the club to collect supplies for homeless and abandoned animals to benefit the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter. Powerful Service Message from U.N. Ambassador Gaddi Vasquez

United Nations Ambassador Gaddi Vasquez and former director of the United States Peace Corps, 2002 – 2006, visited St. Margaret’s at the end of last school year to speak with Upper School students bringing a powerful message about service, education and the difference both can make in a person’s life. His message is especially apropos as St. Margaret’s launches the Celebrating Community yearlong service effort to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the school.
Ambassador Gaddi Vasquez began his message by sharing personal information about his background.

St. Margaret’s Launches Celebrating Community, 30th Anniversary Celebration

Students gathered together on Monday morning, filling the Pasternack Field House with energy and Tartan spirit to kick off Celebrating Community, a yearlong service initiative to commemorate St. Margaret’s 30th Anniversary.

You can tell quite a bit about a school by what it makes time for. That is why we gather regularly as a community, in convocation, Chapel, and class meetings. “Good Morning, Breakthrough!”

This was the refrain heard every morning during this past summer, as each of the 50 middle school students in the Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano program was greeted by the group and greeted the group back in turn. These students from San Juan Capistrano are part of an ongoing program that helps local high achieving students preparing for college, while also engaging young teachers from throughout the United States. Chamber of Commerce Student Employee of the Year Announced

Thursday at the Senior Breakfast, Director of Admission Ryan Dahlem announced the winner of the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce Student Employee of the Year, Colfax Selby (grade 12).
He presented Colfax with a scholarship after describing the award on behalf of Mark Campaigne, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee:

Schoolwide SMES Food Drive Supports Local Food Bank and Celebrates St. Joseph’s Day

To celebrate St. Joseph’s Day, St. Margaret’s took part in the largest food drive in the history of Father Serra’s Pantry Food Bank, located in San Juan Capistrano. Joining with three other area schools (St. Catherine’s, St. Edwards the Confessor and the Mission Parish School) our school delivered a full-size school bus more than half filled with canned food, infant formula, diapers, toiletries and other items to restock the pantry.

This food will help support Serra’s Pantry Food Bank here in San Juan Capistrano. Our school-wide drive will take place March 16-20.
