As part of an Ocean Project-Based Contest, a team of students from the Middle School are participating in a community service project that focuses on recycling waste foam (think “Styrofoam” packaging) into a new eco-friendlier surfboard.
We will be collecting the Styrofoam from December 13 – January 6. If you receive any packaging foam this winter break, please bring it in to be recycled. Orange County’s MMJ/Candy Palace Foundation has selected four St. Margaret’s students in grade 8 as winners of its Candy Palace Writing Contest. Alexandra Zalewski, Katie Weaver, Laurel Smith and Shelby Nicholas have been recognized for their creative writing skills and compassion for others. A colorful, feather-filled, tuneful smash hit: that was the 2011 Middle School musical production of Seussical Jr.
The students in grades 6-8 rose to the considerable challenge of putting on this whimsical yet complex, 75-minute show-–and astonished everyone who saw it. From the lead actors to the ensemble cast to the backstage techs, the students of Seussical Jr. exemplified leadership, talent and professionalism as they honed their particular skills.
Student interest in the Middle School production was so great that it was double cast, featuring 87 students and a full student technical crew. …

Over the past couple of weeks, our Chaplains have encouraged us to think, live and act with a sense of goodness from within. Father Phil De Vaul encouraged all of us to live by three rules as we interact in the world, “1. Be kind. 2. Be kind. 3. My fellow grade 6 classmates and I recently returned from an exciting retreat at Camp Stevens in Julian, California! We had loads of fun playing games, hiking, bonding, and more!
