Waste Foam Needed for Middle School Sustainable Surfboard Project

As part of an Ocean Project-Based Contest, a team of students from the Middle School are participating in a community service project that focuses on recycling waste foam (think “Styrofoam” packaging) into a new eco-friendlier surfboard.
We will be collecting the Styrofoam from December 13 – January 6. If you receive any packaging foam this winter break, please bring it in to be recycled. Just drop off the waste packaging foam (technically it’s called EPS foam) to Room 256 (located upstairs in the Gateway Building). There is a large recycling bin …

Candy Palace Writing Contest Success in the Middle School Will Help Feed Kids in Need

Orange County’s MMJ/Candy Palace Foundation has selected four St. Margaret’s students in grade 8 as winners of its Candy Palace Writing Contest. Alexandra Zalewski, Katie Weaver, Laurel Smith and Shelby Nicholas have been recognized for their creative writing skills and compassion for others. Their works are in the process of being professionally edited, illustrated, published and sold as children’s books, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Kids Cafe program of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, part of the nation’s the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, …

Middle Schoolers Make Seussical Jr. a Creative Tour de Force

A colorful, feather-filled, tuneful smash hit: that was the 2011 Middle School musical production of Seussical Jr.
The students in grades 6-8 rose to the considerable challenge of putting on this whimsical yet complex, 75-minute show-–and astonished everyone who saw it. From the lead actors to the ensemble cast to the backstage techs, the students of Seussical Jr. exemplified leadership, talent and professionalism as they honed their particular skills.
