Students Raise Funds to Aid Pacific Marine Mammal Center

From Lower School to Upper School, St. Margaret’s students organized an all-school fundraiser to help the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach. This year, the center rescued a record-high number of seals. Through the combined efforts of the school, the students raised $6,504.62, which is expected to support 13 seal pups from rescue to release including fish and medication.

Three SMES Students Recognized in Prestigious National English Competition

The National Council of Teachers of English has awarded junior Julianna Coleman a Certificate of Superior Writing for the 2013 Achievement Awards in Writing, and grade 8 students Katherine Adelman and Neal Singh Certificates of Recognition for the 2013 Promising Young Writers program. St. Margaret’s English Department was also awarded a certificate of recognition by the NCTE, for “excellence in its instructional program as revealed by its evident contribution to the high quality of writing of one or more of its students honored with NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing.”

Spring Concerts Fill the Performing Arts Center with Music

Grade 7 Students Debate: Should United States Federal Government Increase Social Services for Persons Living in Poverty?

Energy and excitement filled the air as the entire Middle School filed into the Hurlbut Theater. On stage were eight grade 7 students whose learning journey had led them to this pivotal moment: the final show down between the pro and con sides of the grade 7 debate. Five Grade 8 Students to Compete in California State Science Fair

After winning first, second or third place at the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair (OCSEF), five grade 8 students will move on to compete in the 62nd California State Science Fair held in the California Science Center April 15 – 16. More than 1,000 participants from more than 400 schools throughout the state are expected to compete for awards totaling $50,000. A total of eight grade 8 students received awards at the 2013 OCSEF.

Students Compete in 58th Annual O.C. Science and Engineering Fair

This week, The Orange County Register highlighted students who competed in the 58th Annual O.C. Science and Engineering Fair in Costa Mesa. With a love for the ocean and a desire to study marine biology, Makenna Mitchell, grade 8, measured the energy created by the water for her project, “Harnessing Ocean Energy.”
