Ever since the Kindergarten students and teachers read the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud, we has been having an ongoing conversation about filling people’s buckets with kind words and actions. Our big chance happened on the Thursday morning before Christmas break.

Stockings of Love

Last week, in the spirit of giving, the Lower School, with their buddies, stuffed 300 Christmas stockings for the families at Father Serra’s Pantry. The stockings were filled with small toiletries such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, shaving cream and razors, lotion, soaps and toilet paper.

Grade 4 and 5 Students Clean up San Juan Creek

Two weeks ago, a group of fourth and fifth grade students participated in a Kids Care activity to clean up the horse trails by the San Juan Creek. The trails had a lot of trash, so the City of San Juan Capistrano wanted some of it picked up. The students, plus four adults, walked over and cleaned up the trails for about an hour and a half.

Costumed Preschool and Lower School Students Melt Hearts in the Halloween Parade

Adorably costumed youngsters were naturally the center of attention at the 2011 St. Margaret’s Halloween Preschool and Lower School Parade.
The days of Halloween celebrations began with a Preschool parade on Thursday, October 27 and continued with an encore on Monday, October 31, giving all children an opportunity to promenade past teachers, visiting parents, friends and classmates.

A Sustainability Learning Cycle: Green Team Teaches Grades 3-5; They’ll Teach K-2

The Green Team has a dream. In September, our eight representatives were elected as Student Council Green Team members. Our goal is to make our school a better, greener place by educating everyone in the Lower School about simple sustainability practices we can adopt here on campus.

Talented Tartan Tellers Tell Tales at OC Children’s Book Festival

Five Tartan storytellers took the stage before the crowd at the eighth annual Orange County Children’s Book Festival on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Orange Coast College, where more than 40,000 children, teens and adults turned out to celebrate the written and spoken word. St. Margaret’s Artist-in-Residence Victoria Burnett, a renowned national storyteller and poet, was invited to perform at the festival. Victoria Burnett and SMES Students Perform at OC Children’s Book Festival!

Sunday, October 2, 3 p.m. Location: Orange Coast College
Come out to the Orange County Children’s Book Festival at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa to see St. Margaret’s Artist in Residence Storyteller Ms. Victoria Burnett and Grade 4 Tartan Tellers student storytelling club perform on the festival’s Storytelling Stage presented by PBS-SoCal.
