Unearth Earthly Elements in the Library

Trivia Question: What is the most common element in the earth’s crust?
In honor of Earth Day, throughout the month of April the St. Margaret’s Library is displaying a fascinating rock collection on loan from St. Margaret’s parent and geologist Chris Parrish. The collection includes various rock classifications such as carbonates, oxides and silicates.

Also on display and on loan from Mr. Parrish is a textbook written by Dr. Cornelius Hurlbut, father of Headmaster Marcus Hurlbut.

Student Perspective: From the Front Lines of the Battle of the Books

On Tuesday, March 24, the Battle of the Books club, two teams made up of 15 students from grades 4 through 6, went to Saint John’s in Orange to compete in a book trivia contest against other independent schools.

The entire adult St. Margaret’s community is invited to join the final meeting of this year’s Literature Discussion Series, Tuesday, April 28, 10-11 a.m., in the Library. Diane Seltzer will lead a discussion of The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiograhy, by Sidney Poitier. This book is Poitier’s introspective look at what has informed his performances and his life. He explores the nature of sacrifice and commitment, pride and humility, rage and forgiveness, and paying the price for artistic integrity. What emerges is a picture of a man in …
