Tartan Lacrosse Notches 100th Win

The St. Margaret’s boys’ lacrosse team captured its 100th program victory on Friday, March 11, 2011 with a 9-6 victory over Tesoro High School. The overall program record as of March 11, 2011 is 100-44 (69% winning percentage), according to laxpower.com.
The Tartans, beginning their 11th season of lacrosse, all under the guidance of Head Coach Gerry Manning and Assistant Coach Bryan Harney, will be the second program to achieve the century mark in wins. The St. Margaret’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team wins a CIF Championship and so much more.

In 2006, senior captain Nicole Sady Kennedy shared with her varsity teammates a phrase used by soccer players from her native Argentina, “Dejamos la vida,” which means “leave your life on the field.” This expression was close to the heart of every member of the team and it helped lead the Tartans to the first CIF Championship for the girls’ …

A February to Remember

The Tartan wrestling program wrapped up its 2010-2011 season with several major events this past February. On Wednesday, February 2, the Tartan wrestlers competed in a tri-meet wrestling dual at Whittier Christian High School. The Tartans competed against Whittier Christian and Calvary Chapel Downey High School, two teams that are members of the newly formed “Prep League.”

Alumnus Carries Prestigious Honor at Air Force Academy

Michael Duenes (Class of 2007) carries a prestigious honor at one of the most prestigious academies in the country. The Air Force Academy senior is a Group One Executive Officer who oversees a team of 20 staffers, who have another 1,100 cadets answering to them.
“It’s a good leadership opportunity and not something many other college kids would get,” Duenes said. “I wouldn’t get that kind of opportunity [at a different university].”

Girls Tennis and Boys Cross Country Recognized by San Juan Capistrano City Hall

For the Tartans in attendance, these were unexpected and highly cherished remarks by the Mayor of San Juan Capistrano, the Honorable Sam Allevato on Tuesday night as he introduced the Tartan girls’ tennis team for winning three CIF Championships in a row and St. Margaret’s CIF and State Champion boys’ cross country team during the San Juan Capistrano City Council meeting.
Members of each team, parents, coaches, faculty and staff attended the celebration as did many community members.

Natasha Pavlovich, Class of 2009, recently received Highly Distinguished honors as a student-athlete at College of Charleston.
A total of 59 College of Charleston student-athletes were recognized on the fall 2010 Faculty Honors List. Natasha was one of 30 student-athletes on the highly distinguished list.
Natasha runs NCAA Division I cross-country and track for College of Charleston and leads her team in the three mile indoor track in the Southern Conference.

SMES Alumnus Earns Conference Accolade

Roger Williams University senior Corey Fava (Class of 2007) was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week and RWU Male Athlete of the Week after averaging 18.5 points and 5.5 assists to help lead the men’s basketball team to a perfect 2-0 record earlier this month.
