Billy Gaudreau Named Cross Country Athlete of the Week in OC Varsity

OC Varsity named senior Billy Gaudreau Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week of September 19. His time of 14:26 was the fastest among all county runners who competed in the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic and St. Margaret’s ranked third among all county teams that participated. St. Margaret’s Girls Take Third in 2010-11 Commissioner’s Cup Race

Earlier this week, the San Juan Capistrano Patch reported that St. Margaret’s girls’ athletic program finished third in the 20th Annual CIF Southern Section Commissioner’s Cup competition earlier this month. The Tartan girls won team championships in volleyball (Division 4-AA), soccer (Division 6) and tennis (Division 3) and were fourth in cross country (Division 5).

Coach Gerry Manning Named 2011 Boys’ Lacrosse Coach of the Year

The Orange County Register has named Lower School physical education teacher and Upper School boys’ lacrosse team coach Gerry Manning as the 2011 boys’ lacrosse coach of the year.
This year, Mr. Manning, who has been at St. Margaret’s for 17 years and the coach since starting the program in 2001, led the Tartans to the finals of the U.S. Lacrosse Division 1 South playoffs.

Senior Mitchell Pok Named Boys Lacrosse Athlete of the Week

On Tuesday, Mitchell Pok was named Athlete of the Week by The Orange County Register. Mitchell has a 4.3 GPA and has been a three-sport standout in football, soccer and lacrosse.
Mitchell, a three-year starter on attack, “epitomizes the notion of being a student athlete at St. Margaret’s,” said St. Margaret’s Assistant Coach Bryan Harney.

Three St. Margaret’s Athletic Department coaches have been recognized as top coaches in Orange County for this school year, according to The Orange County Register. Coaches were recognized according to who stood out from the pack, did the most for their team, met high expectations or lead their team through adversity.
Rob Lakeman and Dylan Wade were included for their work with the cross country program. And Johnny Marmelstein, who was also recently awarded Girls Soccer Orange County Register Coach of the Year, was included in the list.

Two SMES Athletic Teams Win CIF-SS Team Academic Awards

St. Margaret’s girls’ golf team and boys’ baseball team have placed first in the annual CIF Southern Section Academic Awards program. The girls’ golf team placed with a 3.75 GPA and the baseball team with an overall GPA of 3.58. The girls’ golf team will also receive a $500 grant from the Women’s Southern California Golf Association (WSCGA). Two St. Margaret’s teams earned runner-up honors and eight other teams finished in the top five of their respective sports.

Tartan Athletics Ranked Third in the County

The Orange County Register ranked the top 25 athletic programs in the County and named St. Margaret’s number three. OC Register OCVarsity Editor Steve Fryer credits the Tartans’ remarkable success of the fall and winter sports teams for the high ranking. The top finishers in the fall were girls’ volleyball, girls’ tennis, and boys’ cross country who captured CIF Championships. Soccer Players Honored by OC Register

St. Margaret’s girls’ soccer team won the CIF Championship earlier this month and are still reaping the benefits. On Tuesday, March 22 The Orange County Register named the county’s top soccer players.
The OC Register’s All-County team is made up of high school girls who compete in Orange County and represent all divisions of CIF. St. Margaret’s junior forward, Katie Donahue was named First Team All-County. This is the first time in school history that we have had a girl soccer player named to the All-County team.

The Orange County chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame honored 62 football players from around Orange County last Monday, including 26 from South Orange County schools. St. Margaret’s seniors Bryan Flores, Mitchell Pok and Brennan Smith were honored for their outstanding academic performance.
