With CIF Division Championships in girls soccer, girls volleyball, girls tennis, a CIF and State champion boys’ cross country team and an Academy League champion football team, St. Margaret’s has ranked seventh on the list.

Success isn’t a Matter of Chance; it’s a Matter of Choice

Soccer legend, two-time World Cup Champion and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Julie Foudy visited St. Margaret’s Monday to congratulate the Tartan girls’ soccer team for winning back-to-back CIF-Southern Section Championships for the first time in school history. Additionally, she and the St. Margaret’s community congratulated the boys’ cross country team for winning a CIF-SS Championship and a CIF State Championship for the second year in a row. Named one of Orange County’s top multisport athletes by OCVaristy.com, junior Regan Anderson helped St. Margaret’s girls’ soccer team win the CIF-SS Division 6 title last season (scoring a goal in the title match) and has contributed five goals and three assists this season. She also helped the girls’ lacrosse team win the U.S. Lacrosse Division 2 Southern Section title last spring, scoring five goals in the championship match.

American Tennis Champ Michael Chang Congratulates SMES Girls Tennis

American tennis great Michael Chang visited St. Margaret’s before the Christmas break to congratulate the Tartan girls’ tennis team for its fourth straight CIF Championship. He attended an Upper and Middle School pep rally to celebrate the girls’ unprecedented achievement in a highly competitive CIF southern section field. To read about the team’s success, click here.

Senior Billy Gaudreau, who was fifth in last week’s West Regional qualifier, finished Saturday’s Footlocker Cross Country Nationals 3.1 mile race in 34th place in a time of 16:07.

Additionally, St. Margaret’s boys’ cross country team finished its season unbeaten and Billy Guadreau posted a course record time of 15:27 in the state finals.

Please join our Upper and Middle School community as we honor our Tartans girls’ tennis team 2011 CIF Champions. This is the fourth straight CIF-SS Championship for the Lady Tartans Tennis Team and the fourth straight undefeated season.
American Grand Slam tennis champion, Michael Chang will attend the event to personally congratulate the team. Mr. Chang was the youngest male player to win a Grand Slam singles title when in 1989 he won the French Open at the age of 17.

Harvard Kicker and SMES Alumnus David Mothander Featured in The Boston Globe

Harvard University sophomore kicker and St. Margaret’s alumnus David Mothander helped Harvard’s football team claim victory over rival Yale University in front of a crowd of 55,137 last month. The 45-7 win was the 128th meeting of the competitors. Mothander scored from five yards out on a fake field goal in the second quarter.
Mothander was a three-sport athlete at Phillips Exeter Academy and the starting quarterback his senior year at St. Margaret’s.

Boys Cross Country, Girls Volleyball and Girls Tennis are all competing on Saturday and Monday to defend their 2010 CIF Championship titles. St. Margaret’s Holds Heart Screening for Tartan Athletes and Adults

As a preventive measure, St. Margaret’s held an elective daylong heart screening event at the beginning of the fall sports season to detect potential heart abnormalities. Open to Upper School students, employees and parents, 200 took advantage of the opportunity offered by Heartfelt Cardiac Projects, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help save lives through early detection, education and increased public awareness of SCA.
Every three days in the United States, a young athlete dies from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Tragedy can be avoided through preventive screenings for cardiac problems …

Senior Billy Gaudreau First Tartan to Win OC Championships Sweepstakes Race

It was an historic day at the 45th running of the Orange County Cross Country Championships last Saturday. Senior Billy Gaudreau became the first Tartans runner to win the sweepstakes race and the Boys’ Cross Country team finished fifth regardless of division at the Orange County Championships last Saturday at Irvine Regional Park.
