SMES Artists Recognized in Scholastic’s Exhibition and in an Upcoming Ceremony at Carnegie Hall

Scholastic announced the national gold and silver medal winners in the 90th Art & Writing Awards competition on March 15. There were 230,000 works of art and writing by students in grades 7-12 entered into this year’s competition. Only the top one percent of entries garnered 1,900 national medals. St. Margaret’s Episcopal School junior Liam Lasting is amongst this select group of national medal winners and will be recognized at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 31. SMES Students Succeed at National Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition

Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, several Middle School students submitted writing pieces for competitive writing competitions. Winners of these competitions are listed below.
Peighton McRobie, grade 8, was awarded the National Council of Teachers of English Award for Outstanding Writing for her essay, “Magic Bus.” An excerpt of this essay is also featured in the 2011 summer issue of the Highlander magazine. Peighton was one of eight students recognized from California, and one of only 111 grade 8 students from across the United States to receive this award. The competition asked …
