Johnny Li’s Cancer Research Profiled in OC Register

St. Margaret’s senior Johnny Li was profiled in The Orange County Register this week and on KCBS TV Channel 2 for his work at University of California, Irvine applying math to researching motion and growth of cancer cells. Class of 2010 Headed to Colleges and Universities Across the Country

Ninety-five St. Margaret’s seniors will cross the podium and receive their diplomas next Saturday at the 2010 Commencement Ceremony. As they take those steps, symbolizing the end of their student careers at St. Margaret’s, Mr. Roland Allen, St. Margaret’s director of college counseling, will look on with confidence that they are headed toward vibrant and exciting futures.

2010 Upper School Awards

Last Friday, St. Margaret’s Upper School students gathered in the Pasternack Field House for the 2010 Upper School Awards Ceremony. This ceremony recognizes the exemplary academic work Upper School students have done throughout the school year and honors students for their outstanding work beyond the classroom as well as their contribution to the life of the school.

St. Margaret’s seventh grader Kenley Farace, won the Orange County Spelling Bee in February and heads to Washington D.C. next week to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Kenley was profiled in The Capistrano Dispatch and The Orange County Register this week.

Cum Laude Society Inducts 21 Top St. Margaret’s Students

Last month, seven juniors and 14 seniors were inducted into the Cum Laude Society, an international honors organization for which only a small percentage of high school juniors and seniors are qualified. To be eligible, juniors must rank in the top 10 percent of their class, and seniors must rank in the top 20 percent of their class. In addition, each inductee must be approved by the Cum Laude committee, consisting of school faculty and administrators who evaluate whether they strive for perfection in their coursework and set high academic …

Five St. Margaret’s students have won awards in the California Writing Awards 2010 Scholastic Writing Awards Contest. Johnny Li Represents St. Margaret’s in Prestigious State and International Science Competitions

Next week, St. Margaret’s student Johnny Li, grade 11, will represent our school and Orange County at the California State Science Fair, May 17–18, at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. He will be competing against 958 other participants from 394 schools throughout California. Although Johnny is excited about this great honor, resulting from his win at the Orange County Science Fair, this is not his only recent science victory.
