SMES Kids Care Club Serves Thanksgiving Dinner to Those in Need

Harvard Kicker and SMES Alumnus David Mothander Featured in The Boston Globe

Harvard University sophomore kicker and St. Margaret’s alumnus David Mothander helped Harvard’s football team claim victory over rival Yale University in front of a crowd of 55,137 last month. The 45-7 win was the 128th meeting of the competitors. Mothander scored from five yards out on a fake field goal in the second quarter.
Mothander was a three-sport athlete at Phillips Exeter Academy and the starting quarterback his senior year at St. Margaret’s.

Performing Arts Center Featured in The Orange County Register

St. Margaret’s new Performing Art Center continues to receive widespread interest from the local community. The Orange County Register reporter David Bro stopped by St. Margaret’s campus this week to tour the Performing Arts Center construction site and to sit down with Headmaster Marcus D. Hurlbut, Director of the Arts Darcy Rice, and Director of Finance and Operations David Bush to learn about the facility, the school’s plans for its use and how the arts are a critical part of the liberal arts education at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School.

Senior Billy Gaudreau First Tartan to Win OC Championships Sweepstakes Race

It was an historic day at the 45th running of the Orange County Cross Country Championships last Saturday. Senior Billy Gaudreau became the first Tartans runner to win the sweepstakes race and the Boys’ Cross Country team finished fifth regardless of division at the Orange County Championships last Saturday at Irvine Regional Park. Billy Gaudreau Named Cross Country Athlete of the Week in OC Varsity

OC Varsity named senior Billy Gaudreau Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week of September 19. His time of 14:26 was the fastest among all county runners who competed in the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic and St. Margaret’s ranked third among all county teams that participated. Breakthrough SJC and Founding Director Featured in OC Register

The Orange County Register education writer Scott Martindale visited St. Margaret’s Breakthrough SJC program over the summer to learn more about this program that helps to prepare high-potential, low-income middle school students from San Juan Capistrano for the rigors of college-track academics in high school. Breakthrough provides a rigorous academic enrichment program in an intensive, six-week summer program on St. Margaret’s campus to middle school students. The visible progress of construction on the Performing Arts Center is creating lots of buzz in our local San Juan community. St. Margaret’s Girls Take Third in 2010-11 Commissioner’s Cup Race

Earlier this week, the San Juan Capistrano Patch reported that St. Margaret’s girls’ athletic program finished third in the 20th Annual CIF Southern Section Commissioner’s Cup competition earlier this month. The Tartan girls won team championships in volleyball (Division 4-AA), soccer (Division 6) and tennis (Division 3) and were fourth in cross country (Division 5).

2011 Grad Doug Davis Competes in National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City

The next four years of Class of 2011 graduate Doug Davis’ life hinge on what happens tonight (June 27) on Broadway. Doug will compete against 49 other top-notch theater students from across the nation in the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York. The first-place male and female winners receive a $20,000 scholarship to study theater at New York University, contingent on university admission, plus $10,000 cash.

OC Register Selects Johnny Li as 2011 Graduate who will Change the World

The Orange County Register has selected 10 2011 graduates who will change the world.
More than 110 public and private Orange County high schools were invited to nominate at least one graduate whom they believed would change the world. St. Margaret’s 2011 Valedictorian Johnny Li was selected from a pool of more than 40 applicants.
