OCVarsity.com Announces Senior Robert Deng Selected as AJGA Academic All American

On Wednesday, the American Junior Golf Association selected St. Margaret’s senior Robert Deng as a member of the 2012 HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team.
According to AJGA, the team consists of “24 of the nation’s brightest minds and best junior golfers;” “12 young men and 12 young women who demonstrate the ability to excel both on the golf course and in the classroom.”
Robert won his first AJGA tournament this summer when he topped the leader board at the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out. He also tied for fifth …

Maddie Barkate Shares Her Vision on Going Green

Over the past two years sixth grade student Maddie Barkate has made her mark on St. Margaret’s in a substantial way: by reducing her carbon footprint and the footprint of her classmates. This came in the form of implementing a successful composting program during her fifth grade year, and demonstrating leadership and environmental stewardship on the Grades of Green Youth Advisory Board over the past two years. Alumna Maggie Shipstead Publishes First Novel

Rising grade 9 student Kevin Cox has been named a semifinalist in the Broadcom Masters, a national competition that recognizes students for projects and achievements in regional science fairs. He is among only five Orange County students selected as semifinalists and among 300 chosen nationally.
This spring the students competed at the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair and subsequently at the California State Science Fair.
Chris’ project, “Cosmic Bullets,” examined whether local weather affects the intensity of cosmic radiation at sea level.

OC Register Selects Meaghan Hurr as 2012 Graduate who will Change the World

The Orange County Register has selected 10 2012 graduates who will change the world.
More than 110 public and private Orange County high schools were invited to nominate at least one graduate whom they believed would change the world. St. Margaret’s Meaghan Hurr was selected from a pool of more than 40 applicants.

Top St. Margaret’s 2012 Graduates Honored in OC Register

Orange County’s graduation season is in high gear. To help mark St. Margaret’s students’ accomplishments, The Orange County Register has honored the school’s top four graduates – Ted Ko for academics, Billy Gaudreau for athletics, Saba Saghafi for arts, and Gabrielle Carpenter for community service.

With CIF Division Championships in girls soccer, girls volleyball, girls tennis, a CIF and State champion boys’ cross country team and an Academy League champion football team, St. Margaret’s has ranked seventh on the list.

Five SMES Students Win at the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair

Five grade 8 students took home awards at this year’s Orange County Science and Engineering Fair. According to The Orange County Register, more than 450 students in grades 6 through 12 submitted projects for the fair, which held judging last week at the Orange County fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
Three St. Margaret’s students: Kevin Cox, Derek Lindquist and Jake McFarland, were named nominees in the Broadcom Masters division, meaning they are now eligible for the national contest, in which 300 semifinalists and, eventually, 30 finalists will be selected. Kevin and Jake …
