During this time of year, schools take time to celebrate. We recognize the growth of children, the opportunities that they have been given throughout the year, and maybe most importantly we take time to celebrate the strength and spirit of our community. This year, we must pause and acknowledge the recent devastation in Moore, Oklahoma, where the safety of schools was turned upside down by the tornados on May 20. We know that natural disasters occur, and yet when images and stories come from schools it creates a deeper sense of reflection. We cannot help but feel a more personal call to action, to assist schools as they rebuild and regain the opportunity to serve as a place of safety once again. Click here for reflections from Episcopal Relief and Development, an organization that aligns with our Episcopal identity and provides a trusted framework for how we respond here at St. Margaret’s.

With the school year coming to a close, we encourage your family to find a small way to support Episcopal Relief and Development’s efforts in Moore, Oklahoma. Consider collecting recyclables throughout the summer and cashing them in towards a donation, or host a lemonade stand. We will continue to keep you updated on the school efforts to respond, but we know that in a few weeks our families will scatter and individual acts of generosity will have collective impact on the victims. You are welcome to keep donations over the summer, or drop them off (Attention: Lora Allison, Director of Community Life) when you are in town. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, lora.allison@smes.org.
