The Lower School’s annual Tartan Trot, themed “Take the Final Lap with Mr. Hurlbut” in honor of the Headmaster’s last year at St. Margaret’s, filled the Tartan Field with enthusiastic students, teachers and staff on April 19.

It was a beautiful warm day as the students entered the field through the Tartan tunnel and proceeded to line up in front of the bleachers where house league captains led the students in warm ups. Students were released to the track and away they went with much determination and excitement. Some of the Lower School teachers in their festive attire, as well as Mr. Hurlbut with his “grande” St. Margaret’s flag joined in the fun. Parents stood along the track cheering, taking pictures, handing out cups of water and spraying the kids with a cool mist.

On the Monday prior to the Tartan Trot, Upper School students Julianna Coleman and Brandon Price spoke in Chapel regarding their memories of the Tartan Trot when they were in Lower School, and their athletic experiences and commitment to being active and physically fit. The Lower School Student Council Green Team was also involved by selling green products on the day of the run.

This year, there were individual, class and house league incentives for students to earn donations from their family and friends who pledged to support the Parent Teacher Fellowship Booster Club. All of the students received a BPA-free water bottle for participation and a pedometer if they had three or more sponsors. Several classes earned lunch on the lawn by having 100 percent participation of three or more sponsors and Belmont House League earned free dress.

St. Margaret’s Booster Club wishes to thank all of the administration, teachers, staff and parent volunteers involved in the Tartan Trot. Also, a very sincere thank you to all of the people who contributed financially to this important fundraiser benefiting St. Margaret’s.
