Sears413.185The Parent Teacher Fellowship Parent-Up Speakers Series presented its final speaker of the 2012-2013 school year last Friday to a full house of St. Margaret’s parents and friends in the Hurlbut Theater. Dr. Barry Sears, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller, “The Zone” and creator of the Zone Diet, and a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal and inflammatory responses, presented compelling research that showed the dangerous health issues, including generational genetic changes that result from the typical American diet. He further showed how the right foods and diet are the most powerful drugs to balance the body’s hormone levels, reduce inflammation and prevent heart disease, cancer and other major illnesses common in America. Dr. Sears gave simple instructions for how and what to eat using your eyes and your hand to keep your meals to palm-sized portions of lean proteins and plentiful portions of colorful vegetables. He said, “If it’s white, don’t eat it,” including all processed foods and sugars and to limit oil consumption. This, mixed with supplementing your eating with high-grade Omega 3 fish oil, he says, is called living in “The Zone.”

San Juan Capistrano Patch Editor Penny Arevalo attended and detailed his presentation, including video clips, in an article that you can read here.
