PTF13.9346For those who attended the St. Margaret’s Annual Spring Fundraiser “Music of the Night” at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, it was an evening that will be remembered for many years to come.

From the moment guests entered the foyer, they experienced the first of what would be many surprises. As guests approached the foyer, Phantom of the Opera music was played on a piano by St. Margaret’s senior Austin Foley, shrouded by fog and candelabra. Thus began a magical evening where more than 400 guests were transported into the magic of this Broadway-themed production.

The silent auction tables were filled with amazing class baskets, technology items, kid’s miniature cars, bikes and sports memorabilia. A separate table displayed the wonderful wines, many of which were collected at the Wine Soiree Underwriting Party held in February. The Bid Pal devices helped facilitate this “shopping extravaganza,” and before long the dinner bell was ringing and guests were treated to a delicious dinner in a ballroom reminiscent of a night at the opera. Many thanks to the talented “Music of the Night” decor committee chaired by Amy Ainsworth and Betsy Denham, for helping to create this stunning experience!

One of the great surprises of the evening was a special showing from “Christine and the Phantom” who serenaded the audience with the great music of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Music of the Night,” “All I Ask of You,” and “Think of Me.” We are thankful to St. Margaret’s parent Kelly Parker who underwrote and arranged for the two Broadway singers to delight guests with an amazing performance.

Fund A Need, benefiting The New Library and Learning Commons, was presented and once the bidding started, there was no stopping it! In a matter of minutes, guests pledged more than $250,000 toward the evening’s goal to redesign this wonderful learning space for the students of St. Margaret’s. Many, many, thanks to all of the parents who contributed to this worthy cause.

The live auction was a huge success, and there was much excitement around the bidding. In addition to the beautiful loose cut certified 10.87 carat cushion cut red ruby donated by Lugano Diamonds, the winner of the stunning four carat bangle diamond bracelet was also announced. Excitement continued as the highest bidder of the 2013 Range Rover Evoque Pure Plus, donated by Penske Jaguar Land Rover Cerritos, was revealed.

A tremendous amount of gratitude goes to St. Margaret’s parent volunteers, who without their hard work, we could not have put together this amazing evening. We want to especially thank our chair Jennifer-Lawson Wagner, whose vision and leadership fueled our parent volunteers’ commitment and passion for this event. Thank you to Janet Mitchell, PTF President; Lisa McGuire, technology and silent auction chair; Sharon Maita, class basket chair; Marianne Payne, online auction chair; Kelly Colvin, communications chair; Heather Lasting, graphics chair; Adrienne Adelman and Pauline Frye, technology support; Cara Cragun, reservations; Kathryn Wong, Sarah Holsinger and Sue Shinn, event treasurers; Beth Adamany, for her unending support of the PTF, and, of course, all of St. Margaret’s maintenance staff, headed by Edgar Barriga. Thank you also to the many donors who gave to our auction!

We also would like to thank the Advancement Office staff of Lara Farhadi, Ian Tacquard and Karen Sherman for their support; and, for the support of Anne Dahlem and her communications team, Nicole Peddy and Jennifer Perez.
