Host a Breakthrough Teacher This Summer!

Breakthrough SJC has been a passion for a number of St. Margaret’s families and faculty/staff members since its inception in the summer of 2006. The mission and purpose of this national organization and the impact it is having in our local community are reasons many families stay actively involved as host families for the program.

Breakthrough needs members of the St. Margaret’s community to offer a guest room in their home for nine weeks (June 11 to August 7) this summer to one or more college-age students who will come to California to teach in the program. The teachers range in age from 18-21 and come from college campuses throughout the United States. They are a highly selective group of young men and women chosen from more than 100 applications.

The teacher(s) you would be hosting are outstanding college students with a passion for teaching who desire to make a difference in the lives of the local middle and high school students who participate in this program. They are on the St. Margaret’s campus from 7:45 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Most breakfast and lunch meals are taken care of here at school, so they would just need something for dinner, whether it is dinner with your family or something to warm up when they get home. Most nights they work on lesson plans for the following day. On the weekends, they usually socialize with each other. They will either have a car or St. Margaret’s will provide their transportation to and from school.
