Rising grade 9 student Kevin Cox has been named a semifinalist in the Broadcom Masters, a national competition that recognizes students for projects and achievements in regional science fairs. He is among only five Orange County students selected as semifinalists and among 300 chosen nationally.

This spring the students competed at the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair and subsequently at the California State Science Fair.

Chris’ project, “Cosmic Bullets,” examined whether local weather affects the intensity of cosmic radiation at sea level.

Thirty finalists will be chosen August 29. They will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., in October for a live competition. The overall winner will receive a $25,000 prize.
