Six students from St. Margaret’s Middle School competed in the University of California, Irvine MATHCOUNTS® Regional Competition last month. This year, two teams composed of the following students showed their competitive spirit during the competition: Karen Ahn, Grade 7; Aaron Garfinkle, Grade 6; Jack Li, Grade 7; Megan Phansalkar, grade 8; Alice Ra, grade 6; Tamara Tsubota, grade 8.

MATHCOUNTS® is a non-profit national math enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state and territory. It is one of the most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors and students in America.

“As team coach and Middle School math teacher, I am so proud of our team,” said Stephanie Windes. “There were 184 participants in the competition and we were one of only three private schools represented. One of students had a perfect score on the sprint round competition, an impressive accomplishment for our team of six students versus larger school teams; congratulations to all who participated!”
