The Orange County Register education writer Scott Martindale visited St. Margaret’s Breakthrough SJC program over the summer to learn more about this program that helps to prepare high-potential, low-income middle school students from San Juan Capistrano for the rigors of college-track academics in high school. Breakthrough provides a rigorous academic enrichment program in an intensive, six-week summer program on St. Margaret’s campus to middle school students. The program continues with a year-long support tutoring program at their school, Marco Forster Middle School. Mr. Martindale talked with Breakthrough SJC Founding Director Diosa Adams about the program and her experiences with her students. Ms. Adams left the program at the end of the summer and after transitioning her role to new Director Jesus Montoya who joined Breakthrough from San Juan Hills High School where he served as academic advisor and Advanced Placement coordinator.
