The St. Margaret’s boys’ lacrosse team captured its 100th program victory on Friday, March 11, 2011 with a 9-6 victory over Tesoro High School. The overall program record as of March 11, 2011 is 100-44 (69% winning percentage), according to laxpower.com.

The Tartans, beginning their 11th season of lacrosse, all under the guidance of Head Coach Gerry Manning and Assistant Coach Bryan Harney, will be the second program to achieve the century mark in wins. The Tartans (2-0) started the 2011 season on Wednesday with a decisive 10-4 triumph over Cathedral Catholic of San Diego.

St. Margaret’s regularly competes and succeeds in lacrosse against larger schools from all over California, both public and private. The boys’ and girls’ lacrosse program is one of the oldest and consistently most successful programs in Orange County, due to its motto to “Honor the Game.” The boys started this season ranked #5 in the county and the girls ranked #7, according to ocvarsity.com and the US Lacrosse Coaches’ Poll. Most of the players on both teams are two and three sport athletes.

After winning the California State Club Championship in 2005, St. Margaret’s was the first CIF sanctioned boys’ program in Orange County, playing in CIF -San Diego Section for the 2006 year, going undefeated in the Coastal Conference and reaching the CIF-SD Quarterfinals. Since the establishment of the CIF-Southern Section for Lacrosse in 2007, St. Margaret’s has won the Trinity league all four years with a league record of 30-3, and reached at least the Quarterfinals or Semifinals each year, including the Orange County finals in 2008.

The girls’ program has competed at the CIF level since 2004 in CIF-SD, won the Southern Section title in 2008, and has four graduates who played at the Division I level. Fifteen former Tartans boys’ players have played college level lacrosse at the Division 1, Division 3, and MCLA Club level, and one graduate, Kyle Morrison, is the Head Lacrosse Coach at Cal-St. Fullerton. Five Tartans have earned US Lacrosse High School All-American Honors, and two have earned US Lacrosse Academic All-American honors.
