Ryan Dahlem Everest Summit Bid This Sunday UPDATED!
Update: Tartan Ryan Dahlem on Top of the World!
Ryan Dahlem and his father John Dahlem reached the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world at 29,029 ft., Monday, May 24, 2010 at approximately 10 a.m. Nepal time (Sunday, May 23, 9 p.m. California time). We’ve received reports that they spent about 30 minutes on the summit before descending safely to the South Col. They will rest over night at Camp Four and then descend to Base Camp tomorrow. For the past eight weeks, St. Margaret’s Ryan Dahlem has been making the climb of his life in the Himalayas with his dad John Dahlem. They are attempting a summit bid of Mt. Everest, the world’s tallest mountain, over 29,000 feet. After weeks of climbing and acclimatization rotations to as high as 24,000 feet, and waiting out the extreme weather conditions, Ryan and John will attempt to reach the summit of Mt. Everest on Sunday, May 23. They were profiled in The Orange County Register this week with five other Orange County climbers on Mt. Everest this season.
Ryan and John reached the summit of Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth largest mountain, in September 2008. Read more here.
